The following donations were recommended by Kenilworth Lions’ Community Service Committee and agreed unanimously by Club members at the June club meeting:
- A grant of £1000 has been awarded to the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) Baby Lifeline Appeal. This initiative aims to support maternity services and improve safety for mothers and babies, especially in areas affected by disasters or wars. This appeal aims to cover 500+ healthcare centres in Ukraine. Our donation will fund the purchase of one midwife home birth bag.
- A grant of £900 has been awarded towards the costs of staging the Old Town Festival (30-August)
- A grant of £1450 has been awarded towards the costs of staging this year’s centenary Kenilworth Carnival (27-June)
A total of £3350 has been donated in direct grants this month
In addition to these, the following donations have been made:
- We kicked off a fundraising appeal this year to purchase and equip our second ambulance for Ukraine. We started with a fantastic Spring Sale at our Furniture Store on Saturday 09-May. This alone raised £3811 towards the £8000 target. The proceeds of this year’s Grand Show raffle also went towards the ambulance purchase. We’re delighted to say that the funding target has been achieved. We work together with the Belveder charity to provide these vehicles to Ukraine. A cheque for £8043 was presented to Dawid Kozlowski from Belveder at this year’s Lions Grand Show. This will be used to purchase and equip an ambulance which, hopefully, Kenilworth Lions will drive to Ukraine
- We are coming to end of our current President’s year of service. Each year, our President nominates a charity project, and raises funds for that throughout the year. Our 2025-2026 President, Bill Wanley, chose to donate funds to Kenilworth School. These funds will be used to reinforce mental health and wellbeing services at the school. The club recognises the challenges that young people face these days, and wanted to help. A cheque for £14,114 was presented to the school CEO, Haydn Abbott and to the SENDCO head, Luke Ovendon at our Grand Show.
In addition, Furniture Store vouchers to the value of £655 were issued to applicants sponsored by Orbit Housing, Love Lillington and Warwick District Council.
