Community Service

Donations

The primary focus of Kenilworth Lions’ support is to help groups and individuals in Kenilworth and the immediate area. Requests received from outside the area will usually be directed to the local Lions Club.

The Club also supports international aid projects such as the construction of water wells in Africa, and emergency response at times of international disasters

We also act as a collection point for unwanted spectacles which are sent abroad to developing countries where they can be re-used.

Our Community Service Committee is responsible for considering all requests for donations and appeals for help. All applications need to be made through the Pride of Lions Community Grants scheme.

You can help us to maintain our support for these many worthwhile causes, by making a donation – either as a one off or on a regular basis. Please press the Donate button to go to CAF Donate, our charity giving site.

Community Service – Locally

We support the local community in many practical ways!

PHAB Club

Each Wednesday night a member of Kenilworth Lions Club takes members of PHAB by minibus to a social event arranged by its members. The local branch of a national PHAB network, the club encourages disabled and able-bodied people to get together socially to fulfil the PHAB philosophy of ‘MAKING MORE OF LIFE TOGETHER’.

Kenilworth PHAB meets at Kenilworth Sports & Social Club in Rosemary Hill, on first Wednesday and at St John’s Church Hall, Warwick Road on third Wednesday of each month. On other weeks they are ‘out and about’ enjoying the delights of local pubs, restaurants, theatres, tenpin bowling, and the like.

Stroke Club

On Tuesday afternoons a member of the club collects members of Kenilworth Stroke Club and transports them to the Waverley Day Centre.

Theatre visits

In December the club arranges for disabled and elderly people to visit a theatre in Kenilworth. The club pays for the tickets and refreshments. Members of the club transport those who require lifts to and from the theatre. Places are limited but if you know of anyone who lives in Kenilworth who doesn’t go out very often and may enjoy a visit to the theatre please contact us to see if there are places available.

Lions Serve Youth

Our community projects often support local children and schools through scholarships, recreation and mentoring. Internationally, we offer many programs, including the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Camps and Exchange and Lions Quest.

Community Service – Internationally

We support the global community in many practical ways!

Natural Disasters

Lions Clubs International and local Lions volunteers on the ground help communities following natural disasters by providing for immediate needs such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies and by aiding in longer term reconstruction. Ranked the Number One non-governmental organisation in 2007 by The Financial Times, Lions Clubs International since 1968 has awarded more than $660 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world.

Sight Savers

Lions help with restoring eyesight for millions around the world. Drop off your unwanted spectacles at our Furniture Store or in SPECSAVERS in Kenilworth so we can recycle them.
We also help support eye operations around the world. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward their mission of providing vision for all. Lions have extended their commitment to sight conservation through countless local efforts and through their international Sight First Program, which works to eradicate blindness.

Lions Club International Foundation

Lions Clubs International Foundation Is the charitable foundation of Lions Clubs International which provides funding to financially assist Lions Clubs to tackle problems such as blindness and hearing loss and respond to major catastrophes such as earthquakes and floods. LCIF is Lions helping Lions serve the world. Donations provide funding in the form of grants to financially assist Lions Districts with large scale humanitarian projects that are too extensive for Lions to finance on their own. The Foundation aids Lions in making a greater impact in their local communities, as well as around the world. Grants provide both immediate assistance following natural disasters and long term disaster relief for reconstruction efforts.
