Community Events

Throughout the year, we organise a series of seasonal events to help support needy causes in the community.

We work to raise funds to help both local and international charitable initiatives. Club members spend a lot of time and effort raising money and serving the local, national and international communities.

In April, as Easter approaches, the club conducts the Easter Egg Raffle to win one of many giant chocolate eggs. These eggs are placed in supporting businesses, who endeavour to sell as many tickets as possible to the local community, with all proceeds going to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Our second event occurs on the second Saturday of June, when our fingers are crossed for sun. Abbey Fields is filled with stalls, music, entertainment and fair-ground rides as part of the ‘Grand Show’. The money raised aids local businesses and charities, and maintain a thriving and prosperous community.

Last but not least, the Lion’s Club hold two Christmas Events. On the 23rd of December, get your singing voices ready for a caroling event in Abbey Fields. Wrap up warm and sing your hearts out, with a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate. If that wasn’t enough, on Boxing Day see hundreds of rubber ducks strewn into the river at the Ford, at the Duck Race’. It is a spectacle not to be missed, and for your chance to win a prize buy yourself a duck for just ¬£1.
