For the first time in its near fifty year history, the Kenilworth Lions Grand Show in Abbey Fields had to be cancelled on Saturday due to the adverse weather conditions and the waterlogged state of the ground. The difficult decision was made early on Saturday morning, when it became clear that it would be impossible to continue.
The Show had been planned as a special celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Kenilworth Lions in 1969, with an extended programme going on into the evening.
Gordon Henderson, Kenilworth Lions president, said: “We were terribly disappointed to have to cancel the event, for the team of Lions who had put so much work into it, for all the many stall holders, and of course for the general public, who always give us such great support. Lions Club members will now decide over the next few weeks whether or not it might be possible to re-schedule something for later in the year.”
The Grand Show raffle draw did go ahead, with Kenilworth Mayor Alison Firth drawing the winning tickets live on air at Radio Abbey, Kenilworth’s own internet radio station based at the Kenilworth Centre.
The winning raffle ticket numbers were: 1312, 1547, 0505, 1895, 1239, 0690, 0096, 0900, 0786, 0199. Winners will be notified by phone in the next few days.
