There are only a few days to go now to the traditional start to the Christmas holidays for many Kenilworth people, the annual outdoor carol concert organised by Kenilworth Lions. Being held for the second year running in the lovely setting of Abbey Fields, the concert is on Saturday 22nd December and starts at 6.00 pm.
This is a great chance to enjoy the fellowship of others while singing along to all of your favourite Christmas carols, and perhaps sampling the mulled wine or other refreshments on offer.
Admission to the concert is free, but the Lions hope that you will donate generously to help cover the costs of putting on the event. There will be plenty of collection buckets doing the rounds at the event, but also this year for the first time you can donate online before, during or after the event by going to the web site at www.kenilworthlions.co.uk and using the MyDonate button on the events page.
Then, on Boxing Day, comes one of the highlights of the Kenilworth annual calendar, the Lions’ Charity Duck Race in Abbey Fields, starting at the Ford by Kenilworth Castle at noon. Thousands of local residents will be there to cheer their ducks on as they race down Finham Brook towards the finishing line by the swimming pool, with the winners scooping cash prizes of £100, £75, £50 and £25.
Duck Race tickets have been on sale at many locations through the town over the last few weeks, so have you bought yours yet? If not don’t worry, because there will be plenty left still to buy on the day of the race itself.
Kenilworth Lions take great pride in organising these two major events for local residents over the Christmas holiday period, and we hope for your support at both. All net proceeds from the events go to support local charities and good causes, and in our 50th anniversary year of 2019 in particular will be channelled into our new Dream Scheme grants awards which were launched a few weeks ago. Full details of the Dream Scheme, and how to apply before the deadline of 1st March 2019, are on the Kenilworth Lions’ web site.
